The summer has come and gone. Although technically speaking there are approximately three weeks of summer left, most people have already braced themselves for the chilly days, falling leaves and wave of pumpkin-spiced foods that have become synonymous with fall. With the changing of seasons comes fantastic opportunities to travel the world. I’ve decided to compile a list of places to visit during the fall that are sure to bring nothing but happy moments and fond memories.

Leavenworth, Washington

Why travel to Washington during the fall? The state isn’t typically associated with great destinations and getaways, and yet it is one of the best places to visit during the fall; the town of Leavenworth, more specifically, is home to one of the country’s greatest Oktoberfests imaginable. The fest takes place for three weeks in October in the Bavarian town of Leavenworth. The fest also features a healthy dose of traditional German food and beer. Although it does not have the same grandeur of the original Oktoberfest held in Germany, but it is the next best thing.

Acadia National Park

Obviously, you want to see some of the yellowish/orange foliage that the fall is known for. What better place to experience it than in Acadia National Park? The National Park is home to dozens of trails that are perfect for biking and hiking. During these excursions, you can immerse yourself in the sprawling acres of vivid yellows, oranges and browns that populate the park. Acadia National Park is certainly one of Maine’s most treasured attractions.

France

Why stay local when traveling this fall? A visit to France during Autumn is just what the doctor ordered. One of France’s biggest draws is harvesting season. During the fall, the country’s finest vintners begin picking grapes for winemaking. If wine is not your cup of tea, you can also visit one of the several thousand historical sites littered throughout the country that have opened up their doors to visitors; learn deep insights into the country that no textbook can provide.

Fall is a magnificent time; it can get somewhat of a bad rap for putting an end to summer weather and vacations around the world, but it is certainly its own special season. Two of the largest holidays in the country are held during fall and mother nature shows her true beauty in the changing of the leaves. There’s far more to love about the fall than there is to hate, so get out there and enjoy it!
